Contracted to work on the Sun’s Dream Team online fantasy football game deliverable. Wunderman are a Top 20 NMA agency and count a number of exciting clients including Coca Cola across many sectors on their books. They are based in a huge building in Morning Crescent with it’s own canteen. Asos is downstairs and VML is next door. Boasting to be the ‘number 2 digital agency’ I was actually quite surprised at this claim as I didn’t really see much evidence of being that great! As an avid fantasy football fan it was an exciting opportunity to be involved in a project that covers a lot of territory in terms of content, strategy, game play, sexy ui and working on a platform that has a huge user base.
Up to 1,5 million unique users use The Dream Team football platform every year. The Sun targeted growing the subscriber list to 3 million. Key to this was improving the user journey dramatically and increasing the average time a user spends on the site. Customer registration and periodic ‘transfer windows’ were previously the only blasts that customers actually used the site. Delivering weekly content to capture and engage with the user was a solid strategy that has worked to improve the time that the user spends on the site, with knock-on effect of improving subscriptions across other The Sun products. A user-centric platform which engages the user with added value options to increase the user journey times across registration and ongoing gameplay have been key for the 2015/16 seasonal game.
Without giving too much away, this year’s offering will see a full front-end ‘mobile first’ redesign. So expect enhanced gameplay and user experience on the mobile device and improved content delivery.
My work so far has involved research, requirements gathering, brainstorming site structure using these requirements, creating a site map, wire framing key user journeys and creating polished visual designs including UI for mobile first and designed using responsive templates.
